Alžběta Jungrová
Photographer, documentary filmmaker
In her photographic essays, Alžběta Jungrová captures the layers of human emotion, whether through traditional photography, collage, or video projections. She is now experimentally combining photographic images with glass.
’s Resume: She began taking photographs in elementary school and graduated from the Secondary School of Graphic Arts on Hellichova Street. She then worked for the daily newspaper MF Dnes and the editorial offices of Hospodářské noviny and Lidové noviny. From 2000 to 2002, she lived and worked in the U.S. and in London.
She considers documentary and reportage to be the foundation of her work, as she is interested in the lives and stories of her contemporaries. She has traveled to various corners of the world in search of subjects and has often photographed in extreme situations. She received an honorable mention from Czech Press Photo for her reportage on drugs along the Afghan-Pakistani border. She received an award from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees for a series of photographs depicting children working in a brick factory in Peshawar, Pakistan, and for photographs from a Burmese refugee camp in Bangladesh.
She currently works as a freelance photographer and is represented by 4D Photo, one of the most prestigious commercial photography agencies. She is working on several documentary and time-lapse projects and creates commissioned documentary photographs, advertisements, and portraits. She participates in many charitable projects.
In her personal work, she explores and visualizes the themes of human emotions and the search for one’s own inner boundaries through traditional photography, collage, and video projections. She uses unconventional materials such as fabric, glass, mirrors, and plexiglass to print her photographs.
She is one of the founding members of the 400ASA group.
