Martin Janecký is one of the most prominent figures in contemporary international glass art. His work is based on a truly exceptional technique of sculpting hot glass from the inside of the glass vessel. This masterful approach allows him to create highly realistic and expressive sculptures that push the boundaries of working with glass to a whole new level.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR'S LIFE

He began gaining his first experience in the glassmaking craft at the age of thirteen at his father’s glassworks, which provided him with a solid technical foundation for his future work. During his subsequent career, he traveled the world and spent a significant portion of his professional life in the United States, where he had the opportunity to collaborate with the world’s leading masters. It was there that he mastered and further developed his unique technique of free-form hot glass shaping, which established him as one of the world’s absolute best.

In his artistic practice, he focuses primarily on creating realistic and intricately detailed objects, such as human heads, skulls, and animal figures. He does not use any molds to create them, but shapes them exclusively while hot using special tools from inside a red-hot glass flask. This exceptionally demanding process requires not only consummate technical skill and extreme physical stamina, but also tremendous spatial imagination and a deep sense of sculptural detail.

His unique works are now widely represented in many prestigious galleries, museums, and major private collections around the world. He also regularly shares his wealth of experience with future generations as a visiting instructor at leading institutions, including the renowned Pilchuck Glass School and The Studio of The Corning Museum of Glass. In recent years, he has moved his primary creative base back to the Czech Republic, where he has successfully established his own glass studio in Prague, which has become a major international hub for creative collaboration.
