Vladimíra Klumpar-Pavlik is one of the most prominent figures in Czech artistic glassmaking. In her work, she combines a masterful command of fused glass techniques with organic forms, optical depth, and symbolic meaning. Her monumental sculptures draw on the tradition of the Czech glassmaking school, which she enriches with the experience she gained during her many years working in the United States.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR'S LIFE

She studied at the Secondary School of Applied Arts for Glassmaking in Železný Brod and subsequently at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague in Professor Stanislav Libenský’s studio. After graduation, she collaborated with the Škrdlovice Glassworks and later headed the glass studio at the Instituut voor Kunstambachten in Mechelen, Belgium. In 1984, she moved to the United States with her husband, Michael Pavlik, where she developed her own artistic practice for more than two decades. In 2003, she returned to the Czech Republic.

In her sculptures, she works primarily with fused and cut glass, which she views as a material capable of capturing light, space, and a spiritual dimension. Her work is characterized by organic forms, precise craftsmanship, and inspiration drawn from natural structures, the universe, and themes of birth, transformation, and human existence. Her works combine technical perfection with a powerful emotional and symbolic force.

Her works have been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums across Europe, North America, and Asia, and are part of major public and private collections. For her work, she has received, for example, the New England Artist Foundation Fellowship, the Massachusetts Artist Foundation Fellowship, and the prestigious Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant. For the Glass Soul collection, she created the works *Space Nest* and *The Spiral of Life*, which combine fused glass with themes of protection, life, and continuity, and represent the culmination of her long-standing interest in light, matter, and spiritual symbolism.
