Zdeněk Lhotský is one of the most prominent figures in contemporary Czech glass art. In his work, he combines artistic vision with a deep understanding of fused glass technology and has long been pushing the boundaries of this medium. In addition to his own work, he has been instrumental in creating a number of extraordinary projects for leading Czech and international artists and architects.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR'S LIFE

He graduated from the Secondary School of Applied Arts for Glassmaking in Železný Brod and the Glass Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague under the guidance of Professor Stanislav Libenský. He is a founding member of the Tvrdohlaví art group, and since 1994 he has headed Studio Lhotský, which continues the tradition of the legendary studio of Jaroslava Brychtová and Stanislav Libenský.

His work spans monumental glass sculpture, design, and architectural installations. He is known for his extraordinary technical precision, experimentation with materials, and exploration of new possibilities in fused glass. Studio Lhotský has produced a number of technically demanding works by Czech and international artists, and today the studio ranks among the most respected facilities of its kind in the world.

His works have been featured in major international exhibitions and symposia and are included in public and private collections both at home and abroad. Studio Lhotský has carried out projects for artists such as Judy Chicago, Marc Newson, Karen LaMonte, and Faye Toogood, and has contributed, among other things, to the creation of the world’s largest fused glass object—a glass sarcophagus for the Danish royal family. For the Glass Soul collection, the studio created objects that combine technological perfection with timeless artistic expression, reaffirming the exceptional standing of Czech cast-glass sculpture in the international context.
